The first high-resolution global map of changes in forest cover over the last 12 years shows which parts of the world are losing forests at an alarming rate. Using Landsat satellite images of Earth's surface provided by the U.S. Geological Survey combined with cloud computing support from Google, researchers mapped global tree cover, loss, and gain between 2000 and 2012.
