LOHAS + Life Changing Events

Life Changing EventsLife Changing Events are a non government, independent, community health initiative driven to change the way we eat, drink and think. We create healthy sustainable communities supporting a local living economy that will nourish families forever! LCEs vision is to provide education, films, forums, sustainable living classes and eat yourself well workshops, to improve the health & wellbeing outcomes of our community for the better.

To become a sanctuary to eat yourself well, every week @LOHAS, every month on the BIG screen, in the biggest loungeroom @LCEs for our community to come together and learn about health, nutrition and environmental issues effecting our families in the city, through documentary films, forums, wholefood, friendship and fun, for all generations!

Life Changing Docos, now Life Changing Events was born from a need for “health education” driven by concerned local mums back in October 2009. I wanted to provide a sanctuary/space to come together with other like minded health conscious souls, provide a primarily self-funded “community health initiative” dedicated to health, wellness and environmental issues that effect our local community.

VISION: To prevent & reverse disease with education and wholefoods! To change the media predictions of the ” NEXT GENERATION WILL DIE BEFORE THEIR PARENTS!” and reverse disease with food!

My introduction to good health was twenty two years ago, when I was asked to manage the Golden Sun Health Food Store helping locals “eat themselves well” in 1990-1996. It was here, I realised that our foods we where addicted to, where making us sick and the long term outcomes where devastating. I had young and old people coming in with divertaticulitus, allergies, sugar addictions, obesity, skin rashes, acne, diabetes etc.. I began to search for the truth about food, wholefoods and natural medicine. Books such as FOOD AND BEHAVIOUR, LAUGH WITH HEALTH, GOING ORGANIC became my bibles and made me question everything I read in magazines, newspapers, TV and radio. Top athletes where advertising everything from junk food to energy drinks, I began to read between the lines and dig deeper for the truth about disease, could it be the fuel we are putting in our bodies that caused the problem? Does fast food cause disease? I believe so, I asked my well respected ND & Dr and they both said yes! I was onto something and I didnt want to be responsible for my children to suffer from the same addictions I had as a child.
No-one else around me thought the same and so I was on my own journey for many years, I was seen as a nut. Dairy, meat, sugar, and fast food was promoted everywhere as good for us, incredibly addictive, yes, devastating long term to my health – YES!

Then in 2003, my mother-in-law was diagnosed with Cancer, followed by my two best friends.
My biggest challenge was getting access to good food to them and my family. I found it impossible to buy organic food to help my mother in-law and decided to track down local organic farmers who grew food locally. I knew they where there, but the industry was in its infancy and mis-represented in supermarkets and sadly undervalued by the consumer. I was ridiculed by others for trying to source organic food, I didn’t need a degree to tell me food grown without pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and toxic poisons would be better for us, just common sense, we are up against very powerful lobby groups and govts with other financial agendas.

Whilst visiting the hospital daily, I witnessed the despair of families with loved ones first hand, we had no access to wholefood, and so the only way i could help was to donate a juicer and blender to the oncology ward at RBWH, sadly the nurse on duty told me it would only get stolen and not used. I found it impossible to buy organic food to help my mother in-law and decided to track down local organic farmers who grew food locally. I knew the farmers existed I just had to find them, their food was just mis-represented in supermarkets and undervalued by the consumer, only because we didn’t know about the added extras we get on our F&Veg, our school as we knew it was replaced by adds on TV, Radio and Magazines/Newspapers, who happened to be owned by the same people. This was fueled by the brilliant documentary FUTURE OF FOOD. My eyes where opened beyond comprehension.

This frustration was topped off by seeing the film An Inconvenient Truth, 10 years ago, on my own with only 10 other locals, we where scattered in the dark in watching a story in disbelief. I was overwhelmed by the impact of humans on our planet, to see the devastation on the big screen woke me up from a slumber, I wasn’t aware of. I had lost all respect for mainstream media and knew we didn’t have access to the truth unless we dug deep for it.

I wanted to lead by example and live a more conscious and healthier life. I dreamed of my children growing up in a world who cared for others, share with others, offered a helping hand to those who couldn’t help themselves. Move away from unconscious consumerism to conscious consuming…and see the ripple effect leave a legacy for all generations to thrive in…

Much sadness, fear and greed dominated mainstream media and nightly news. I needed the good news and wanted it to be shown in true stories, something I was addicted to as a child,
I couldn’t tear myself away from documentaires, this is the most powerful story telling and truth seeking medium on the planet right now.

Life Changing Events is a social responsible business that brings education, health, happiness and solutions to our community wanting change.

In 2012, I joined forces with my sister Nicole Rayment and three local mums and a great dad, Michelle, Tania, Beck and Andrew who wanted to start a movement back to basics, better health and wellbeing through Life Changing Movies, Markets and Music… Creating Healthy Sustainable Communities everywhere…

About
